Ft. Hood shooting victim suffers possible setback

By Scott Harvey

Reno, Nevada – A soldier from Lone Oak who was severely wounded in the Fort Hood shooting rampage is once again hospitalized after suffering a fall.

Officials say Staff Sgt. Patrick Zeigler fell during a trip to Reno, Nevada where he was being honored by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

It's a possible setback to what doctors had called a miraculous recovery in the past 16 months. According to a Fort Hood spokesman, the 29-year-old Zeigler was on a ventilator Friday after surgery to remove a blood clot.

Since being shot four times in the November 2009 rampage that left 13 people dead on the Texas Army post, Zeigler has had half a dozen surgeries that removed about 20 percent of his brain. His determination to walk again was on display this past December at his wedding reception, when he put down his cane and danced slowly with his bride.
