– Donations are still being accepted as firefighters are called to assist in the wildfires in West Texas.
Jennifer Cook with the Lamar County Red Cross says money is running so thin that in some cases firefighters are footing the bill.
"We found out that a lot of the volunteer firefighters are actually having to take the fire trucks and fill them up [with gas] with their own money because the fire departments are out of money," Cook said.
She says Red Cross crews in West Texas are working to assist families who've fallen victim to the fires, while Lamar County and others not directly impacted are helping firefighters.
Firefighters made more progress Thursday in containing the Possum Kingdom Lake blaze
that's blackened nearly 150 square miles in three North Texas counties. The fire is one of several burning in the state, including two massive wildfires in West Texas.
