Funeral services set for soldier killed in Afghanistan

Poetry – Funeral Services are set for Friday for U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Shawn McNabb, who was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

A plane bearing McNabb's body is expected to be flown into Majors Field Municipal Airport in Greenville Wednesday at 11:55 a.m.

A motorcade will then proceed from the airport into Terrell. The family has requested that those who desire, line the roadway along FM 1570 between the Airport and Hwy. 34 to pay their respects to Staff Sgt. McNabb.

A funeral service with full military honors is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Terrell with burial to follow at D/FW National Cemetery in Dallas.

Staff Sgt. McNabb, a Special Forces Combat Medic, was on a special operations mission with Drug Enforcement Agents when their helicopter went down. McNabb had spent six years in the Army and was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Nighthawk Unit located at Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia.

Staff Sgt. McNabb's father David is a recently retired member of the Greenville Fire Department. Staff Sgt. McNabb also leaves behind his mother Ann, a sister Heather, and his fianc e Sarah Kirk.
