Gag order sought in Hunt County murder case

By Brad Kellar

Hunt County – A gag order is being sought in connection to a Hunt County capitol murder case.

The defense attorney for Jerry Lynn Phelps, charged with the murder of Charlene Hoover Jones, is seeking to limit pretrial publicity in the case. The motion refers to a 2004 trial which a jury was initially unable to be chosen after too many members of the potential jury pool indicated they had read published stories about the defendant in that case. Phelps fears that a similar article will be published in this case, depriving him of his right to have an impartial jury seated.

Jones died after being shot multiple times in Oct., 2008 as she worked at the Jackpot Game Room between Quinlan and West Tawakoni.

Phelps, of Wills Point, remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail.
