Gameday Preview: #10 Texas A&M-Commerce vs Angelo State

Texas A&M-Commerce Head Coach Colby Carthel takes on his alma mater Angelo State this Saturday at Memorial Stadium. The Lions look to build to a two-game win streak after handing Western New Mexico State a loss last week, 52-3. Against the Greyhounds, senior quarterback Luis Perez went down in the books becoming A&M-Commerce’s all-time touchdown passing leader, breaking the 64 year record. He went 22-for-31 for 345 yards and five touchdowns in the game, running his career total to 52. Perez finished his record-setting week to become conference offensive player of the week.

The Lions victory over Western New Mexico was their 300th Lone Star Conference victory in football action, putting them second all-time in LSC football wins. A&M-Kingsville has won the most conference games at 302.

In their last meeting A&M-Commerce outscored ASU 42-0 in the second half to win 62-14 in San Angelo. This matchup is traditionally anyone’s game with none of the last six games decided by more than a score. This will be the 49th meeting all-time between the two programs with the first meeting being in 1970. ASU leads the series 29-17-2 including 6-4 in the last 10 but the Lions have won four of the last five matchups.

The Rams offense is currently leading the Lone Star Conference with 496.0 yards per game this season. ASU is also top in the league in first downs per game at 24.7 and third down conversion successfully getting a first down 45.5 percent of the time.

The Lions are 2nd in the LSC and 10th in the nation at 41.7 points scored per game. At 15.3 points allowed per game, A&M-Commerce ranks 1st in the LSC and 11th in the nation.
