Gameday Preview: Lions Take on Eastern NM in Doubleheader

The Texas A&M-Commerce basketball is back at the Field House for a doubleheader Thursday, December 7, after starting Lone Star Conference play on the road. Both teams are looking for a pair of wins against LSC foes Eastern New Mexico University.

Bri Wise and Dorian Armstrong have both earned LSC Offensive Player of the Week. Wise averaged 23.5 points and 6 rebounds, Armstrong posted 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds last week. This is the first time this season a player from both teams earned LSC player of the week.

In their last contest, the women’s team lost to Midwestern State 69-66. Meanwhile the men’s team is still riding high on an undefeated season.

Lions Women’s Basketball (4-4):

Head Coach Jason Burton’s team look to shift their momentum Thursday. Against MSU the Lions had a handful of players in double figures including Bri Wise leading the way with 20, Artaejah Gay with 16, Princess Davis had 13, and Melanie Ransom added 10. The team went 13 of 22 from the free throw line and had key misses down the stretch.

ENMU (3-4) is coming off a 61-44 loss to West Texas A&M and are winless (0-2) in conference play. Last season it finished 20-9 and split the season series 1-1 with the Lions. Colorado-Colorado Springs handed the Greyhounds an 89-73 loss last season at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament.

    Bri Wise #2 (TAMUC)- Wise has been in her bag this season posting career-highs on two separate occasions this season; both earning her back to back LSC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

  • Mikaehla Connor #3 (ENMU) - Last week came up with 11 points and 3 rebounds in a loss to West Texas A&M. In 27 games last season she averaged 9.1 points. She poured in a season-high 18 points with 3 assists on the road against Texas A&M-Commerce last season.

 
Lions Men’s Basketball (7-0):

 

The men's basketball team come into this weekend’s contest still undefeated after overcoming a 15-point deficit to put away a stubborn Midwestern State squad last week, 95-77. Joseph Williams-Powell came away with 16 points with 14 rebounds and Reggie Reid finished with 12 points and a career-high 14 assists.

ENMU (3-5) suffered a crushing defeated in their last matchup against No. 8 West Texas A&M, 99-69. The Greyhounds are starting their season off slow as they are 0-2 in conference play. Last season the Greyhounds posted a 13-15 record and failed to make the playoffs. ENMU split the conference series 1-1 with A&M-Commerce.

    Dorian Armstrong #25 (TAMUC) - Armstrong is coming into this game off his first LSC Offensive Player of the Week honors of the season; averaged 16.5 points. He’s hoping to continue the same momentum from last week where he posted 11 points and 9 rebounds against MSU.

  • Lamarquis Thompson #0 (ENMU) - Thompson was a top four scorer for the Greyhounds last season. He’s averaging 14 points and 5.9 rebounds. Against WTAMU, Thompson finished with 12 points, 4 assists, and tallied 3 rebounds.
