Gardeners to present at Children's Museum

Commerce – The Northeast Texas Children's Museum will welcome Lamar County Master Gardeners to the Museum on Saturday, March 6. Jean Maninger, Helen Ressler, Ann Gillilan, and Jackie Neugent will direct activities for children. These master gardeners will be assisted by Pat Abramson of the Hunt County Master Gardeners.

"We're very pleased that the Lamar County Master Gardeners are coming to the Museum and bringing these fun activities for the children," said Sharline Freeman, Executive Director of the Northeast Texas Children's Museum.

The Lamar County Master Gardeners attended a workshop in Dallas that focused on providing gardening activities for children. Members of the group have previously presented the activities to children throughout Lamar County.

Three separate activities are planned for children in grades 3 through 5. Activities include making and decorating gardening hats, making plant people, and making plantings for seeds for square foot gardening. The sessions will be offered at 2:00 pm and 3:30 pm at the Museum.

"These activities are not only fun for children, but they will also raise awareness of the fun that comes from gardening", said Ann Gillilan.

The activities will be free for Museum members. Non-members will be charged the regular Museum admission fee. Parents are requested to call the Museum at (903) 886-6055 to enroll their children because a limited number of materials and spaces are available.
