Gas leak prompts evacuations in Quinlan

A natural gas leak resulted in the evacuation of the elementary school and the school administration building in Quinlan on Monday. During construction work at the intersection of State Highway 34 and Kirby Avenue, crews ruptured an Atmos Energy gas main.

Information posted by the Quinlan Independent School District police department indicated that due to the gas leak, the Joe Martin Central Administration Building and A.E. Butler Elementary were evacuated. Elementary school students were taken to Ford High School.

From QuinlanISD Police Department’s Facebook page: “Atmos energy has stopped the gas leak and on-scene safety personnel have advised us that it is safe for students to return to the school. At this time, students are being taken by bus from FHS back to A.E. Butler where afternoon dismissal will operate normally - if you pick your student(s) up, you may do so in the normal A.E. Butler parent pick up lane. Students that ride the bus will catch their regular bus from A.E. Butler. All buildings previously closed will re-open and the afternoon will continue as regularly scheduled.”
