GEUS to break ground on new plant

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – A major project in Greenville is set to break ground today.

The Greenville Electric Utility System (GEUS) will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the company's new electric generating plant. The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. outside the current GEUS Steam Power Plant on Power Lane.

GEUS officials announced plans last summer to build the $35 million, 25 megawatts (MW) plant adjacent to the current Steam Plant. When complete, the facility would primarily be used to provide electricity during times of peak local demand and at a lower cost than GEUS is now paying.
