A Fannin County child who went missing late yesterday morning was later found dead in a neighbor’s swimming pool.

KXII-TV reports that 3-year-old Alyssa Stephens was discovered on a property just east of Whitewright. Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies searched the area around the girl’s home yesterday after Stephens had been reported missing. Officers didn’t notice the body in the pool at first because the dark waters of the pool obscured their view, according to KXII’s report.

Officials say they believe the death to be an accidental drowning and do not suspect foul play. An autopsy has been ordered.
