GISD addresses charges against former instructor

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – New details involving a former student teacher at Greenville High School who's alleged to have engaged in a sexual relationship with an underage student.

Superintendent Don Jefferies says 37-year-old Christopher John Torti, of Commerce, had already been banned from the campus.

Torti, a student at Texas A&M University-Commerce, had been an intern teacher at Greenville High School.

He was arrested Oct. 13 and charged with indecency with a child after his alleged involvement with a 15-year-old female student. The incident is said to have occurred away from the Greenville campus in April.

Superintendent Jefferies said the district first heard about the allegation in May.
