Gov. Perry appoints local man to SURRMA post

AUSTIN - Cooper resident and Texas A&M University-Commerce professor Delbert Horton III has been named presiding officer of the Sulphur River Regional Mobility Authority (SURRMA).

Governor Rick Perry announced the appointment Monday. It is subject to senate confirmation, with the term expiring Feb. 1, 2013.

Horton is a registered professional engineer and an assistant engineering professor at A&M-Commerce.

Horton replaces Don Wall, who had served as presiding officer since the organization's inception in June 2007.

SURRMA was the eighth Regional Mobility Authority authorized by the Texas Transportation Commission. Committee members serve Delta, Hopkins, Hunt and Lamar counties. Their initial project is the expansion of SH 24 from Commerce to Paris.

Regional mobility authorities accelerate the development and financing of critical transportation projects throughout the state.
