Grant awarded to fund rape aggression defense program

GREENVILLE -  Greenville Police Chief Daniel Busken is currently accepting donations to fund training and purchase equipment for RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) training.

RAD training is offered by police departments throughout the country. This very intense, physical training, taught by police officers, teaches women how to defend themselves against a physical attack.

The F.L. Young Foundation has offered the Greenville Police Department a $5,000 grant toward the $10,000 needed for training and equipment. The department recently received a $1,000 donation from Altrusa International.

According to Chief Busken, "There is definitely a need for RAD training. Our police officers respond to numerous assaults each month and any steps we can take to teach women how to defend themselves will be steps in the right direction.” This endeavor is also supported by the2010-2011 Hunt County Chamber of Commerce Leadership class.

Businesses or individuals wishing to make a donation to the program may contact Chief Busken at 903-457-2913. Additional information about RAD is available at www.rad-systems.com.
