Grant to fund two police officer positions

By Scott Harvey

Greenville – The Greenville Police Department will receive a 2010 COPS Hiring Program (CHP) grant award for two police officer positions.

The estimated amount of federal funds to be awarded over the three year grant period is more than $430,000.

The City will soon begin the hiring process for the two new positions, which will help address neighborhood complaints, criminal activity, and traffic violations.

Police Chief Dan Busken said, "I am pleased with the announcement that the City of Greenville will receive funding for two additional police officers, because additional personnel provide a police department with flexibility. I am currently in the process of conducting a thorough assessment of our entire operation and these additional personnel will be beneficial with regard to meeting any needs uncovered during this assessment."
