Do members of the African Methodist Episcopal Church tend to be older? Are people who attend Pentecostal churches often younger? Which faiths tend to have a higher number of people with college degrees?

This week, Religion News Service published a graph using data from a 2007 Pew Research Center study. The report compiled information from people in 44 different religious categories, including three groups for people who do not identify with any religion.

Some highlights:

Among African-Americans, members of the African Methodist Episcopal church reported being older and having more advanced education than other African-American respondents. Pentecostals and independent Baptists churches trended the youngest among African-Americans.

Among Mainline Protestants, the oldest denominations – Episcopalian, Methodist, United Church of Christ – reported having the oldest members.

Roman Catholics reported having generally the same level of education as their Protestant counterparts, but tended to be younger.

The three non-religious categories – atheist, agnostic, and “nothing in particular” – all trended younger than most survey respondents.
