Grass fire consumes 350 acres

Campbell – A grass fire near Campbell was brought under control late last night after firefighters from multiple agencies spent the day containing the blaze. More than 350 acres were consumed as high winds and dry conditions provided the perfect fuel for the fire to spread.

The fire was first reported around 2:30 yesterday afternoon along County Road 4106. Winds of more than 30mph helped quickly spread the fire. Units from Campbell, Lone Oak, Greenville, and Cumby responded and aircraft from the Texas Forest Service performed aerial drops on the fire.

Some Commerce personnel were involved in fighting the blaze, but other personnel were assisted by Wolfe City firefighters in fighting a smaller fire in Commerce.
