Greenville to amend noise ordinance?

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – A vote by the Greenville City Council could allow more noise later downtown.

Main Street Manager Doyle Dick is to ask the council Tuesday to consider amending the city's amplified noise ordinance during the early morning hours. The ordinance currently prohibits any "loud, disturbing or unnecessary noise" from disrupting the peace of local residents, between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. daily.

With the recent resurgence of live music venues in the downtown area, merchants who have been scheduling the concerts have been requesting and the Main Street Advisory Board is also recommending that the ordinance be amended. The city council is set to vote for or against the amendment Tuesday.
