Greenville amends exterior construction standards

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – Greenville elects to change its standards on exterior construction.

The city's regulations now include non-residential buildings along two additional local highways. The Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve an amendment to the existing ordinance which added U.S. Highway 380 and State Highway 66 to the list of major thoroughfares where a majority of masonry exterior is required on the building.

Variances can be granted under the ordinance based on architectural creativity and/or compatibility with the surrounding developed property.

Farmers Electric Cooperative was seeking just such a variance for the warehouse and office building it plans to build near the intersection of Interstate 30 East and Lamar Street, which the council also granted.
