Greenville to begin accepting facade grants

By Scott Harvey

Greenville – Applications are now being accepted for downtown fa ade grants in Greenville, as the city looks to boost its already resurgent downtown.

The Greenville Board of Development has targeted $25,000 toward the effort this year, with matching grants from $2,500 to $5,000 per applicant. The grant funds cannot exceed fifty percent of the cost of each project.

The program will be administered through the Main Street Advisory Board and the Main Street Office and the goal is to award the grants before September 30.

Buildings designated as historical by the State of Texas or the Main Street Advisory Board will be given preference. Restoration of storefronts to their historic status will also be given preference.

Application packets are available at City Hall located at 2821 Washington Street in the Main Street Office or on the City's website at www.ci.greenville.tx.us/facadegrants.

Except for routine maintenance, approval from the Main Street Advisory Board is already required under current policies for exterior alterations to downtown building fa ades before work can begin. This includes signage changes, new paint colors or other physical changes.
