Greenville closer to establishing TIRZ

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – More details have emerged regarding a proposed tax increment reinvestment zone (TIRZ) in Greenville. The firm of Hawes Hill and Calderon, which is working with the City of Greenville on establishing the TIRZ, delivered a report Monday to the Hunt County Commissioners Court. Presented was the size of the zone, which would cover approximately 1,900 acres, stretching from the Interstate 30 corridor through downtown Greenville to U.S. Highway 380. The TIRZ would pay for public infrastructure improvements, such as water and sewer lines and roads, within the area identified for development. The TIRZ would only charge a tax on businesses within the zone, with the taxes collected going to pay off the cost of the improvements.
