Greenville – Discussion is slated this week in Greenville regarding a tax increment reinvestment zone (TIRZ). The Main Street Advisory Board is scheduled to discuss the TIRZ when it meets in regular session at Thursday. The City Council voted in December to create the TIRZ, a move expected to generate additional tax revenue and help spur economic development. The zone will cover approximately 1,900 acres throughout the City. The TIRZ would pay for public infrastructure improvements, such as water and sewer lines and roads, within a specific area identified for development. The TIRZ would only charge a tax on improvements made within the zone, with the taxes collected going to pay off the cost of the improvements.
