Greenville Girl Arrested for Alleged School Shooting Threat

Greenville City and ISD police thursday charged a 14-year-old Greenville Middle School student with making a terroristic threat after they say he allegedly texted a friend that he would "shoot up the school."

In a statement, the city police department said the girl was arrested Thursday morning and taken to the Grayson County Juvenile Detention Center. She reportedly told officers that she was joking; that she'd "seen all of the news involving school shootings and thought it would be funny to scare her friends," according to the statement.

Police Chief Daniel Busken said whether the threat was a joke was irrelevant.

“Regardless of why the student may have made the threats, due to the climate in America involving school shootings, threats of this nature will and must be taken seriously,” Busken said.
