Greenville hospital recovering from crane collapse

By Bill Oliver

Greenville, TX –

It took less than 24 hours for Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville to return staff and patients to where they were before a crane collapsed Monday afternoon.

"Other than the fact that we have a steel crane bent over part of our roof, everything is normal!" The quote from a hospital employee sums up how staff and patients recovered. Everyone that was moved for precautionary reasons were back in their work areas and hospital rooms Tuesday morning.

Construction of the $29 million dollar West Wing addition will not resume until OSHA and crane safety inspectors complete their investigations. The dangling piece of the crane was removed Monday night. Tuesday, the rest of the broken crane came off the roof the west wing. Hospital officials
hope work will resume
no later than next Monday.

The 260-foot crane arm bent after depositing a load, damaging the top of the eight story main building. At least one window was knocked out. Fortunately, the person who works in that office was not there at the time. Another hospital employee was treated in the emergency room and returned to work later in the day. And a construction worker suffered an arm injury.
