Greenville house fire<BR>claims a young life

By Brad Kellar

Greenville, TX –

The Friday night before Christmas, a house fire in Greenville took the life of the son of a Hunt County Sheriff's deputy.

Isaiah Bell, 8, one of twin brothers, and the son of Deputy Sandra Bell, was killed, although his brother survived.

A statement from the Greenville Fire Department indicated four engines and a command vehicle responded around 11:40 p.m. Friday to a single family wood frame home in the 4700 block of Sunset Street in Greenville. The fire started in one of the front bedrooms, said Interim Fire Chief Doug Caison.

Four residents; an elderly male, Sandra Bell and the two twin children, were home at the time of the fire. The elderly male, Sandra Bell and one of the children were able to escape the blaze. Isaiah Bell was trapped inside the residence and was removed by a Greenville firefighter. Once outside, fire personnel began administering CPR until the ambulance crew arrived. The child was transported to Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville where he was later pronounced deceased.

Caison said a preliminary investigation was unable to determine the cause of the fire, adding It doesn't appear to be suspicious, he said. The state fire marshal's office is conducting a second, independent investigation.

Funeral services are being arranged with Grace and Mercy Funeral Home.
