Greenville ISD begins search for new superintendent amid mild controversy

By Kevin Jefferies

Greenville – The Greenville ISD School Board slowly began the process of hiring a new superintendent last night. Trustees met behind closed doors to hear proposals from three different search firms. No action was taken to select a search firm or to name an interim superintendent. Another meeting was set for next Monday to further discuss the matter.

Citizens in attendance questioned the decision to meet in closed session to hear proposals from the search firms. Trustee Dr. Jack Ammons had suggested meeting behind closed doors so the firms did not hear each other's presentations. Some audience members still questioned the move, however, and even began questioning the leadership of the school board and Board President Steve Mitchell for outbursts at previous meetings.
