GREENVILLE - The Greenville Chamber/Convention and Visitors Bureau has joined the ART Region of Texas.

The stated mission of The ART Region of Texas is: “To encourage enrichment and exposure for the region of North East Texas, to   further artistic and economic growth, increase the overall quality of life and reduce poverty”.

Other cities in the ART Region include Clarksville, Commerce, Mineola, Mount Pleasant, Mount Vernon, Paris, Quitman, Sulphur Springs and Winnsboro. The organization’s goals include holding cooperative events, increasing tourism, and creating economic growth, not only for the artists, but for all communities in the area.

The affiliation will allow the Chamber/CVB to promote both performing arts and visual arts.

“We have outstanding musical and other programs at the Greenville Municipal Auditorium and at our local wineries, and we’ll soon have the restored Texan Theater as an attraction,” said tourism director Milton Babb. “We want to make sure we use every resource to promote these venues."

Local painters, sculptors and photographers may also benefit by Greenville’s inclusion in the ART Region. Greenville’s attractions are now listed on the ART Region website, www.artregionoftexas.com <http://www.artregionoftexas.com>  Other recent developments on the tourism front include the lease of two billboards on Interstate 30 (one in Sulphur Springs and one in Caddo Mills)  and several tour buses/conventions scheduled to come to Greenville in April  and in May.
