Greenville man dies as result of house fire

By Scott Harvey

Greenville – A Greenville man is rescued but dies following a Monday morning house fire.

The Greenville Fire Department responded to the reported structure fire at approximately 9:28 a.m. at 1715 O'Neal Street.

A 39-year old male, whose name was not released, was rescued and the fire quickly extinguished. He was the only individual of three living in the house to be home at the time of the fire. The victim suffered burns to his chest and smoke inhalation, and firefighters quickly began CPR. The man was then transported to Hunt Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

The cause of the fire, which was contained to just one room in the house, is unknown and is still being investigated. According to Interim Fire Chief Doug Caison, the fire did not appear to be suspicious in nature.
