A representative with Farmers Electric Cooperative (FEC) told the Herald-Banner Wednesday afternoon that equipment is to be moved on to the site of the motel at 1900 Interstate 30 Monday morning.

FEC, which operates offices at 2000 Interstate 30 in Greenville, submitted the sole bid on the sale and demolition of the motel.

The Greenville City Council approved the sale in February.

FEC offered $80,009 for the property and agreed to  demolish all structures on the site, at the company’s own expense, within 180 days of the award.

The company plans to expand its current operations onto the property in the next few years.

The city will not transfer the deed of the property until the demolition is complete. City crews previously removed the sign from in front of the motel, which is being offered in a separate sale.

The City of Greenville agreed to purchase the motel property from federal law enforcement authorities in Dec. 2011.

A requirement under the agreement mandated the city hold on to the property for five years before placing it up for sale.
