Greenville municipal utility district in the works

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – The Greenville City Council learns about the creation of a Municipal Utility District (MUD). The the presentation took place Tuesday. The Council then voted to hire consultants to look over engineering, legal and other aspects of the development being proposed by Walton Development & Management, which will be footing the bill for the consultants. The developers are seeking approval for the creation of the MUD, a tool which could be used to sell bonds to raise the revenue necessary to install needed infrastructure. The district as proposed would include slightly more than 6,600 acres north and south of Highway 380. The city would be able to collect sales taxes from within the MUD and earn additional revenue from the sale of water and sewer services as the area develops.
