Greenville murder charge dropped

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – A murder charge has been dismissed in connection to a Greenville homicide.

Andreas Tearri Morris, of Greenville, had been charged with murder, but prosecutors dropped the charge after most of the witnesses failed to show up for trial. Jury selection was scheduled for Monday.

Assistant Hunt County District Attorney Keli Aiken said more than 60 prosecution witnesses had been subpoenaed, but only 11 appeared and were sworn in. According to Aiken, without some crucial witnesses, the State cannot prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The district attorney's office intends to seek a new indictment in the case, in the event the witnesses can be found. Morris had pleaded not guilty in connection with the death in July, 2007 of Cordarien Marquel Kelly, of Greenville.
