Greenville – Officials with the City of Greenville are considering replacing Ja-Lu Pool. Local children would still have a chance to cool off, however, as a splash park is being proposed for the same location.
Parks and Recreation Director Colby VanGundy made the recommendation during Monday's day-long City Council retreat. Expected revenues coupled with expenditures shows the city will lose $413,000 over the next five years. Construction of a splash park, on the other hand, would cost an estimated $600,000 and require about $13,500 per year to maintain.
The facility would also not require a lifeguard, as there is no standing water.
Before any decision is made on the proposal, the Council would schedule a public hearing to receive citizen input. An opinion poll may also be posted on the city's web site.
