Greenville to opt out of fire district

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – The City of Greenville may not be included in a county-wide fire district. The Greenville City Council Tuesday intends to opt out of the proposed district, and not participate in an election in the spring to fund the district. Members of the Hunt County Firefighter Association are attempting to form an emergency fire service district, which would be funded through a county tax of 10 cents per $100 valuation. Each city in the Fire District is required to either opt in or opt out of the proposed district. Greenville Interim Fire Chief Doug Caison has recommended the Council to opt out.
