Greenville seeking funds for July 4 celebration
Greenville – The City of Greenville is already seeking funding for its July 4 celebration.
A title sponsor has been lined up and additional backers are being sought to help defray the costs of putting together a fireworks display and evening of concerts at Greenville's SportsPark.
According to Director of Parks and Recreation Colby VanGundy, only $12,000 of the estimated $39,000 cost has been raised so far. VanGundy said the title sponsor, Edward Jones, has donated $6,000, while $6,000 was included in this year's city budget. He said plans for the celebration have to be prepared and performers signed well in advance of the event, which means the money has to start coming in now, unless the city decides to pay for most of it.
It would be the first fireworks show presented by the city since the summer of 2006.
