Greenville seeking two major grants

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – The City of Greenville intends to vote tonight to approve seeking two major grants.

One grant would allow residents to safely dispose of hazardous household waste products. In July, the Council voted a resolution of support for a proposed sustainable Hunt County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center. Grant money would help pay for starting the project.

The city is also seeking a $400,000 Brownfields assessment grant. If approved, the funds would be used to determine whether there are areas throughout Greenville which might have suffered environmental contamination.

Votes are scheduled on both issues during tonight's regular session, starting at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building downtown.
