Greenville step closer to building assisted living center

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – The City of Greenville is one step closer to construction of a new assisted living center.

The City Council Tuesday approved a change in zoning for the center, which is being planned for near the Hunt Regional Healthcare Center.

Developers asked for a zoning change from office to commercial for three currently vacant acres along Wellington Street. City Planner Lance Estep told the Council that an assisted living center is not allowed under office zoning, but is allowed by right under commercial zoning.

ABCO Developers wants to build a 50-unit assisted living facility along the southeast corner of the intersection of Ridgecrest and Wellington.
