Greenville teen will be tried as a juvenile

By Kevin Jefferies

Greenville – A Greenville teen will be formally charged with murder and tried as a juvenile. The Hunt County Grand Jury met in special session this week to decide if the 13 year old boy would be charged with murder. If convicted of murder, the teen would be placed in a Texas Youth Commission facility until he was 18, then returned to Hunt County where a judge would decide if he would spend the remainder of his sentence in an adult prison.

The charges stem from an incident last month where the suspect allegedly stabbed and killed James Anthony Fields. According to witnesses, the boy was trying to protect his mother at the time.

A hearing is set for Friday to determine if the suspect will remain in custody pending trial.
