Greenville to temporarily change water disinfectant practices

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – Greenville residents may soon notice a difference in odor and/or taste in their water, but there's no cause for concern. City officials will be changing its water disinfectant practices to ensure levels of bacteria do not increase during the hottest time of the year. Higher water temperatures are said to make the disinfectant practice become less effective. To combat the annual problem, the ammonia is discontinued and free chlorine is used for about two weeks. During that time, a change in the aesthetic qualities of the water tends to become noticeable.
