Greenville's Puddin Hill outlet no more, but is this the end?
GREENVILLE - The sale of goods from Mary of Puddin Hill for Valentine's Day had customers excited about the potential life of the store along eastbound Interstate 30, which months earlier had announced they would close operations.
But as shoppers explore gift options for the upcoming Mother's Day, they'll discover the iconic Greenville outlet has again shut its doors. This time for good, according to owner Ken Bain.
Known for their fruitcakes and other treats, Mary of Puddin Hill shut its doors last summer, and then reopened in November for the Christmas season. They were still open in late January. But Bain says they won’t have a retail outlet, and has temporarily suspended its online ordering as it relocates its factory to a new location.
According to the company’s website, Mary of Puddin Hill has served customers from its current location since 1955. The business has been in operation in the area dating back more than 160 years. However, Bain says there is a possibility the company may try to open a retail operation somewhere in Greenville to provide products for Valentine’s Day 2013.
