GREENVILLE - Citing family focus and business opportunities, Greenville Assistant City Manager John Adel announced Friday he will step down effective May 4.

“John has been a tremendous asset to the City of Greenville and has accomplished a number of projects that are beneficial for our community,” said City Manager Steven Alexander.

Adel said, “I have really enjoyed the opportunity to serve this community. My decision to leave the City of Greenville will not only allow me the ability to pursue other business opportunities, but much more importantly, maintain a more intentional focus on my family.” Adel added,

“We’ve made many meaningful friendships in this community, and plan to stay right here in Greenville.”

According to a release by the city, Adel joined Greenville as Director of Community Development in December 2007.

He was named Assistant City Manager in November 2008. As Assistant City Manager, Adel has been responsible for the areas of Community Development, Animal Control, GIS, Parks and Recreation, Main Street, the Greenville Municipal Auditorium and Majors Field Airport.

Alexander added, “John submitted his resignation on April 9, 2012. I had hoped that he might reconsider. John will be missed in his role as Assistant City Manager and as part of the City of Greenville team. I am pleased that he and his family will continue to live in Greenville and be active in our community.”
