Guilty Plea in 2011 Aggravated Assault Case

A local man has been sentenced to prison for trying to run people over with a pickup truck before he was shot.

Rickie Dewayne Miles, 40, of Greenville, was indicted in December of 2011 on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. During a hearing Thursday in the 354th District Court Miles pleaded guilty to the indictment and a separate charge of possession of a controlled substance. Under a plea bargain arrangement, Miles was sentenced to five years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division. Miles was alleged to have used a motor vehicle as a deadly weapon on September 24, 2011 assault at a residence in far south Hunt County. Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said Miles attempted to run over two people with a pickup truck allegedly stolen earlier that evening, before he was shot multiple times.
