Guilty plea entered in brutal murder

By Kevin Jefferies

Greenville – A guilty plea has been entered in connection with a brutal Greenville murder in 2003. Travis Lynn Watson faces up to life in prison now after entering a guilty plea to first degree murder. He has been held on $1 million bond since November 2004 on charges of capital murder and aggravated robbery.

Watson and alleged co-actor Lavace Durell Morgan of Farmersville were both charged with the beating death of Walter Lee Byrd Neal of Greenville and an attack on a second man during the same incident. Indictments accuse the two of using a knife, hammer, and/or fists during the attack that killed Neal and hospitalized the second man.

Morgan already pled guilty to a lesser charge in January 2005 and agreed to testify against Watson. He received life in prison.
