Guilty plea heard in forgery case

By Brad Kellar

Commerce – A Commerce woman has been sentenced to prison for forgery.

Karen Marie Hammons pleaded guilty Wednesday to one indictment alleging forgery of a government document. A second indictment for fraudulent use or possession of identifying information was dismissed, and Hammons was sentenced to two years in prison.

Hammons reportedly used another females name and birth date during a traffic stop last March and also possessed the same victim's driver's license.

Reports show Hammons was also convicted of possession of a controlled substance in 2003.
