Gunman believed to have planned major attack

By Scott Harvey

McKinney – Investigators say the man who opened fire at the McKinney Police Station Tuesday morning apparently hoped for a massacre.

Patrick Gray Sharp, of Anna, died after a shootout with officers. The Collin County coroner has stated Sharp committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. A motive is sought.

Kowalski says the gunman had a plan and was heavily armed, firing close to 100 rounds at the police station with at least 23 bullets striking the building. Investigators found an assault rifle, a shotgun and a handgun on Sharp.

The shooting forced the lockdown of nearby Collin College.

The Associated Press reports Sharp's roommate, Eric McClellan, said he was on vacation when he was informed what happened. McClellan says Sharp was "fine and dandy" when he departed.
