Hall hospitalized following auto accident

KERA
Ralph Hall

This story has been updated throughout.

Ralph Hall, the oldest-ever member of the U.S. House of Representatives, has been airlifted to a Dallas area hospital due to injuries from a car accident, though a spokesman says the congressman is expected to recover. The accident occurred in Fannin County.

Hall's campaign manager confirms the accident occurred on SH 121,  south of Bonham and north of Trenton. They say a car turned in front of Congressman Hall's car,  which was being driven by one of his close friends. The drivers of both vehicles were not hurt. Congressman Hall, 91, was transported by Air Evac to the Medical Center of Plano.

His staff says he was conscious and joking with paramedics after car accident. He suffered a hip injury, cuts and bruises.

Hall had returned to Texas on Friday from Washington, D.C., a weekend routine Hall has maintained during 32 years in Congress.

Hall lost the 4th District Republican primary to 48-year-old former U.S. Attorney John Ratcliffe. Hall is scheduled to leave office in January.

He was born in Fate, Texas, in Rockwall County.
