Hall to visit with Jones on KETR

Texas’ 4th Congressional District Rep. Ralph Hall will join Dr. Dan Jones, president of Texas A&M University-Commerce, for a live broadcast of 88.9 KETR’s The President’s Perspective at noon on Wed. April 2.

Hall, the World War II veteran who, at 90 years old, is the oldest serving member of Congress, will sit down with Jones and KETR’s Jerrod Knight for a live broadcast from the studio headquarters of NPR in Washington, D.C.

“I’m excited for this opportunity to talk with Congressman Hall not only about his current and continued service to our district, our state, and these United States, but also about the contribution of his historic papers to the Texas A&M University-Commerce Library archive,” Jones said.

As an NPR Member Station, 88.9 KETR is in a unique position to take advantage of NPR’s proximity to U.S. legislators in order to bring up-to-the-minute information to its audience.

“We’re looking forward to creating live radio from our nation’s capital city, made possible by our ongoing relationship with NPR, and we know that we’re providing a unique service to our listening audience, offering a window into the real-time interaction between one of our most prominent local business and education leaders and our elected representative in Washington,” said Knight, the General Manager of the local news and music station. “We hope to be able to capitalize on this positive relationship in the future.”

The timing is no coincidence, as the radio station will be in the midst of its Spring Membership Campaign, most often called, “pledge drive.” As a noncommercial educational broadcast operation, 88.9 KETR relies on monetary contributions from its listener/members, as well as programming sponsorship from local and regional businesses. The campaign is set to end on the afternoon of Mon. April 8, which will mark 39 years on the air in Northeast Texas for the station.

The President’s Perspective is a monthly half-hour chat with the president and CEO of Texas A&M University-Commerce, which airs on the first Wednesday of each month at noon and again at 5 p.m. Archives of the radio program are online at ketr.org.
