Hannah Kirby Day declared

A celebration was held in honor of Hannah Kirby, who had a very successful run on NBC's "The Voice." The Sulphur Springs resident and Texas A&M University of Commerce student was given the key to the City, had a proclamation read by Mayor Freddie Taylor declaring May 6 as “Hannah Kirby Day” and presented a bouquet of yellow roses.

In the speech Mayor Taylor revealed that Kirby has been musically inclined since she was little baby.

“She was playing the violin at eight years of age and received many choral awards as well as singing and performing strings in many UIL competitions…Hannah has written over 30 original songs and recorded 10 of them,” said Mayor Freddie Taylor. She was discovered in Nashville, Tennessee which led to her audition with NBC. “City of Sulphur Springs, Texas wishes only the best for this fine young woman.”

The ceremony was held at Sulphur Springs City Hall including a cake and refreshments for the large gathering of fans and family. Kirby, 21, has been one of the top performers during this season of the program, a singing-competition-themed reality show.

Hannah Kirby smiled, that ever popular smile, overwhelmed by the support she has received for her performances.

“This is just another example of how our town supports each other,” said Hannah Kirby. She hugged and posed with adoring fans and signed autographs.

Kirby recently performed for the Northeast Texas Choral Society during their "Rock! Pop! & Doo-Wop!" concert at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center auditorium.
