Hearing to decide commissioner's fate delayed

Van Zandt County – Van Zandt County Commissioner Ricky Laprade will remain in office for at least another month. A Monday hearing regarding the petition to remove him from office has been rescheduled to September 22.

Van Zandt County District Attorney Chris Martin agreed to the postponement because his office is scheduled to begin the murder trial of Johnson Burris.

LaPrade, Commissioner for Precinct 1, has been arrested on separate occasions for drunk driving this year. KYTX-TV reports he faces multiple charges including a felony charge of fiduciary misuse of county property, driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
