Jury selection is a month away in the trial of Micah Crofford Brown, charged with murdering his ex-wife.Prosecutors have announced they intend to seek death by lethal injection as a punishment for Brown, should he be convicted of capital murder involving the death of Stella Michelle “Doc” Ray. Brown has pleaded not guilty.
A pretrial hearing on today’s docket for the 354th District Court. It is the final preliminary hearing scheduled prior to the start of jury selection in Brown’s trial, currently set for March 28.
Ray, a Caddo Mills school teacher, was shot and killed in Greenville.
Brown, 33, remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail in lieu of $1.5 million bond. Authorities say Brown has confessed to shooting Ray, 36, of Greenville on the night of July 20, 2011 as the two argued over a custody dispute.
The capital murder indictment alleges Brown committed the murder while also committing family violence and “in the course of committing or attempting to commit terroristic threat.”
