Help save Internet Broadcasting

By Kevin Jefferies

United States –

Tuesday was a Day of Silence, as thousands of radio stations turned off their internet streams in protest of new royalty rates scheduled to go into effect July 15th. The new rates would crush most small webcasters, increasing rates many, many times over what they currently are. Further, the new rates are retroactive to January 2006, forcing stations to pay rates they never knew existed.

These rates are set to go into effect in July unless Congress stops it. As expensive as they will be, it will get worse, as the new rates will also more than double by 2010.
