Ben Wheeler – Van Zandt County authorities are reporting the discovery of a homemade bomb in a mailbox at a rural residence.
The item, described as a long pipe-like object wrapped in black electrical tape with an apparent fuse, was located near Ben Wheeler.
Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were called to the scene, as well as the Garland Bomb Squad.
Agents were able to safely remove the explosive device. They then transported the device to their facility for further investigation.
